Naruto, Kiba, and Hinata are ordered on a special mission: A treasure hunt! There is a downside though; if they fail the mission, they have to go back to the Academy. They set off confident that the mission will be easy, but still worried about having to go back to the academy. Everything is going as well as expected until some mysterious characters show up. Can Naruto and crew find the gold, or will they have to go back to the Academy with the other little kids?
Now that Tsunade has become the Hokage, all the debts she has been running from are showing up and to make matters worse, Naruto keeps bugging her. Tsunade yells at Naruto to go train and leave her alone. Instead of training, Naruto decides to play soccer against some of his clones but he gets bored rather quickly. As he lies on his back to stare at the clouds, Kiba and Akamaru show up planning to train until they notice Naruto already there. Kiba has just laid down when Hinata runs up to both of them to tell them that Tsunade had a mission for the three of them.
An old acquaintance of Tsunade, Kaisen Agari, is the client this time. Kaisen has a map to a treasure, but the location of the treasure makes it necessary to hire some ninja. The group is excited about the mission and think it will be easy but their mood quickly changes when they find out the cost of failing the mission: they would have to return to the Academy.
Before leaving on the mission, the group heads over to the Academy to see the place where they might have to attend again. The three are kinda lost in thought until Iruka shows up and then they take off as if freaked. Shortly into their trip, they come to a river that they need to cross, and Naruto and Kiba have differing opinions on how to cross it. They decide to make a competition of it and Kiba takes off in one direction while Naruto and Hinata go a different way. Naruto and Hinata seem to continually run into obstacles but they eventually reach the big rock on the other side of the river. Unfortunately, Kiba got their so quick, he had already cooked their meal.
As they continue heading towards the cave that holds the treasure, Hinata feels like someone is watching them but doesn't say anything to Kiba or Naruto. The group comes up to a cave and Naruto believes this is the right cave. Kiba checks the maps and says that the cave should be further away, but Naruto isn't listening. Naruto and Hinata come to a dead end in the cave where they fall into an enemy trap, but Kiba rescues them at the last moment. However, Hinata's legs are hurt and she can hardly walk. Kiba tells Naruto to stay behind with Hinata and he will go find the treasure himself.
